The Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology is a consortium of universities and academic medical centers established by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under Barton Haynes, M.D., of Duke University. The Center's goal is to solve major problems in HIV vaccine development and design. The CHAVI tests new vaccine strategies to overcome key immunological roadblocks in HIV vaccine design.

International AIDS Vaccine Initiative

IAVI's mission is to ensure the development of safe, effective, accessible, preventive HIV vaccines for use throughout the world. Their core mission is to support the development of preventive AIDS vaccines that are not only safe and effective, but also accessible to all people. IAVI invests the bulk of its resources in the research and clinical assessment of candidate vaccines against strains of HIV that are prevalent in the developing world, where some 95 percent of new HIV infections occur.
